South Africa – A Memorable Journey
By Loretta Becker

At last, another check on my “bucket list”.  My husband and I had the privilege of experiencing our 1st African Safari

at “Kruger National Park” in South Africa. It was definitely an Adventure of a life time.  Early in the morning we would board

the jeep for our “open drive”. You can imagine the excitement we all felt, when we saw our first glimpse of a lion in

the distance.  All cameras ready; this was it, we were finally here. Was I just dreaming or was this really happening?

A lion is laying on its back in the grass.
Two zebras are standing next to each other in a field.

We ventured throughout the park spotting different game with a stop for an early morning breakfast right in the midst of

this beauty.  The adrenaline kept flowing as we each had to keep alert to spot our next wildlife.  It was almost noon and we

had already sighted 4 of the Big Five. If only we could see the Leopard, then we had them all.  I was seated in one of the higher levels of the

jeep, so I had great scouting position and to my astonishment, there he was a Leopard with her kill.

Stop I yelled!  This was amazing… our game ranger said this is very rare.

A leopard is laying in the grass with its tongue out.

After 3 days in Kruger Park, we moved on to see some of Africa’s marvelous scenery in Cape Town and experience the
Wine Tour region.
Another highlight of our tour was visiting one of the schools and enjoying the children as they sang to us and asked us questions.  We had taken some Canadian flags and pins there which were a real hit for the children.
My heart was left in “Africa”….

The sun is shining through the clouds over a vineyard.
